I have been interested in starting a salt water tank for years now, and now I am finally in a place that I can finacally afford it...and I have the room. I was wonder where a good place to start is as far as getting GOOD and reliable info either online or from books on how to get started.
Thanks in advance...from what I have read you all are a good communtity of peeps.

You're at a good place to start in terms of learning, with the opportunity to post questions and read a good deal of info. I'd start out with a good hobby book as well as spending time at this site.

be forewarned though, there are no 2 tanks alike...there is almost always controversy on the "proper way" of going about things...however, this site is a great way for you to do the research and come to your own decision...good luck
the "search" feature is great, but you may have to weed out some things...
do you know what type of tank you considering such as agressive, reef tank, Fish Only, Fish Only W/ Live Rock?

Still in my beginning stages on research....I have always liked the tanks that have the rocks or reefs in them...look more realistic. I have heard that reef tanks are a mess to get started tho...so might want to start out with something a little easier then build.....

In this hobby I have found that this site is a good source for information but everyone will always give you a different answer. The basics are the same but everyone does things different in theirs own tank. I found that I just had to try different things until I found things that worked well for me. All your LFS will give you different answers...some just want to sell you things. Always come here first if you are not sure about what your LSF is telling you. My favorite book that I us for info is called "The Marine Aquarium Problem Solver" by Nick Dakin..Tetra Press.
