High end air purifiers

My daughter has allergies and eczema. It has been recommeded that we invest in an air purifier. Looking to get a quality air purifier, I would like your suggestions.
This is for the health of my girl and my home...I guess my fish tank would benefit as well. If money was not an issue here, what do you all recommend?

I asked a similar question on this forum last summer about the air purifier from brookstone and got mixed reviews. A lot of money for something that people say does/doesn't work. If your daughter has allergies, is it indoor allergies she has? Do you have a cat? If so, you may want to get rid of the pet or take an anti-histamine and/or a nasal steroid such as clarinex or nasonex.
Eczema may be helped by an air purifier. The causes of eczema can be indoor allergens such as dust mites or moulds. Pets can be a probelm or tobacco smoke, stress, sensivity to food such as eggs, nuts and preservatives.
Does she take a topical steroid? i.e. clobetasol
Now back to your original question, sorry I can't be of real help. Do a google search on air purifiers and you may be able to get some research and comparisons. Good Luck,

Thanks for your reply. I google searched and found mixed reviews as well. I believe they are all biased towards sales though because I found them off of retailer websites. I was told Oreck makes a good A.P. but the reviews weren't so good.
My daughter just turned 2 years old. She does not get steroids yet. We have been through several topical creams. We were giving her children's liquid benadryl to help with the itching, she scratches like crazy.
We are trying to find a new home for our cat.
She has not been tested for food allergies yet because the doctors think she is too young to put her through all those tests, so do I.
Thanks again...basically got the same advice from the doc.

Anyone else have some input?

I also found another site, consumersearchdotcom, that was a little helpful.
I found a model that I'm interested in....the IQAir HealthPro Plus. I haven't read any bad reviews on it.
Pros-everything I read says it works very well
Cons-$795 plus shipping and the replacement filters are hella expensive too
I plan on buying 2, one for upstairs and one for downstairs....that's $1600+

No problem. Don't forget that you can probably get a tax writeoff for them also depending on your income level.

we use the Honeywell purifier. The only dowside is the HEPA filter. But one child has athsma, so it works for us.
I think heathcare related items are only deductable if you breach a certain amount of expenses. (generally a lot of $$$). Look up IRS.gov
Does your company offer a healthcare flexible spending account? This is great and the dollars are pre tax, so that alone is about an average of 25% savinngs.
What topicals are you using? We have had to pretty much abandon most prescription topicals due to them having "black box" warnings now placed on them.

Yeah, that's why I was saying depending on your income level. Health related expenses that exceed a percentage of your income (forget if it is gross or net) are deductable. Double check me on that though. Fortunately, I've never used that and hope I never do.

Why would the HEPA filter be on the downside? I thought that was the best kind of filter for air purification.

they are great, but very expensive. About $65.
We also have an ionic breeze in our bedroom. That works great also. I just clean the filter about 1 a week or so.
