My KH with my API test kit (which is new) is at a 12-13... I think thats about 220 or so...I believe that is pretty high
any ideas of how I can go about lowering it? I have been having a Cyano outbreak in my tank and I really need it gone..lol... I also did not get this problem till I bought my new T5's.I think I may not have enough flow or maybe my light cycle of 10k is to long... I believe it goes like this...
800 AM Antics ON
900 AM 10k ON
1100 AM Antics OFF
400 PM Antics ON
500 PM 10k OFF
800 PM Antics OFF Lunar LEDs on till 6AM

12 or so dkh is a reasonable value IMO.
Also try killing you lights for a few days to kill off the cyano. Then resume with less duration lighting.

It's on the high end but not dangerous. All you need to do to lower it is to stop adding things that increase alkalinity and it will decrease naturally. I'm assuming it's coming from your tap water but you didn't provide much background information.

Low flow + excess Phosphate = excess Cyanobacter
It will feed off the light but it's an indication that you have too many nutrients in the water column. Decreasing the lights will not remove the excess phosphate.

how is the best way to get rid of phosphates ?
The best way in my opinion is to add as little phosphate to the tank as possible.
The second best would be an algae scrubber in combination with the first way.
Other ways to help would be using a phosphate sponge, dripping limewater into your skimmer, or dosing bacteria food like vodka.
If the phosphate is coming from your tap water then water changes won't help much unless you switch to using RO/DI.
