high nitrate problem

my nitrate is at like 30. is this from over feeding or from the H.O.T magnum canister filter i have? is it a problem for my mushroom and fish? every time i do a water change the nitrate stays the same....

would a 10 gallon water change be to much? i have a 29 gallon. how much do you guys recomend?

As long as you don't change that much water every week, it should be ok. I don't change much more than 10% weekly. Is there any filter media you should be rinsing? Sometimes it gets too much waste/food/etc in it and causes nitrates to raise.

yeah i do a 3 gallon water change weekly.
