If you have a canister, run it constantly or not at all. Thing is, if your canoster is turned off for any amount of time there will be a bacterial die-off that will cause an ammonia spike when you turn it back on.

Thanks, I understand the logic.... but in my case: I have huge amount of bacteria in my LR and LS... What's the purpose of the canister other than "raking off" debris at WC when I turkeyblaster.... the rest of the time the canister is a nitrate/phosphate factory.
Does that make sense?
