High pH

My pH is and has been for a while now a little high(8.6-8.7). How do I lower it? I have heard water changes but that hasn't worked. I use a buffer called proper pH 8.2. This buffer just makes the pH higher. What should I do.

I use a product called "kent marine" superbuffer which works wonders. Follow the instructions and you should be ok. Don't test too soon since it does take some time to lower.
Good luck!

Landmeier,
Just a couple suggestions for you to consider if you haven't already.
1) I would have the water tested using another manufacturers test kit before doing anything different .. maybe your lfs can help. This just confirms your readings on your existing pH kit.
2) Are your mixing your own saltwater ?
What's the pH of the freshwater before adding the salt, and what's the pH of the mixed saltwater before adding to tank ?
3) What time of the day are your testing for pH. Usually in the morning you'll find a lower pH value, not a good time to test or add buffers to adjust. I like to test in the morning and evening to see the natural range swings.
4) Do you think you have good water circulation near the top of the tank - powerhead or return line breaking the water surface - ripples on the surface for good gas exchange - Oxygen / CO2 exchange ?
5) On my tanks - the pH has a tendency to drop over time - not rise. I would not add any more buffering compounds.
I think your high pH is very puzzling indeed, and I am looking forward to hearing what anyone else here has to say.
Good luck -
Brian

Well i used to have that problem too, I notice that the PH went up after I add 2 inches more of live sand and even with water change I couldnt bring it down so i went to my LFS and got this thing call Ph down,it lowers the phand its fast acting.
