High Phosphates, best way to lower ??

BCarp,
I've never read to turn your lights off during the initial cycle. If algea problems are present in an established tank, REDUCING lighting time can be used to help fight the algea.
Particularly if you have anything live in your tank now, like live rock or live sand, you'll need to keep you lights on. Remember that your algea situation is a normal part of the cycle, not something you need to combat or something you're doing too much or too little of.
Good luck with your new tank!!

I had the high phostphate probs, got green algae on my dsb too, and some hair algae here and there. Well, I did some water changes and have Kent's liquid phosphate remover that binds to 'phates and they get skimmed out. Well, after I sucked the green stuff out and replaced the lost sand with live sand that's cured, I don't have any 'phates. I was over feeding too. But now I feed once to twice a day, but I only give them a little at a time, that way it's all eaten up. I direct feed my corals once a week.
