hoping some one could help me figure out what this thing is with out needing a pic (my camera sucks)... it is about half an inch long, oval shaped (like a snail), it has a mouth and i stuck to the glass... it moves but only at night and when i see it, it is always under the sand line on the side of the tank... thanks for the help....

i still havent found out what it is but its not a Stomatella i also have one of these in my fish tank and it couses no harm

i found one thing that looked like it that was under "limpet" but all the others were black and mine was white... if that is what it is, is it safe??? thanks everyone...

My limpets are white, well, turning purple due to coraline. There are some which eat the surfaces of corals, it depends on what type you have. I remove the ones I find, I take no chances.

After looking at your picture, yes I do remember one of those things in my tank that goes into the sandbed like that. I did do some research on it, it's a chiton. IF it is the samething that I think it is, it's harmless. It feeds on algae! I only found those guys in my tank one time and yanked one out thinking it was bad, that's before I knew what it was, there a few more roaming around in my tank somewhere, and they do multiply. And they're good for reef tanks.... :happyfish

It will turn bright purple after munching on coralline. So if you don't have much coralline, it may be a good idea to remove it.
