i have a 100 gallon tank, with a large pinnate bat fish and 2 small damsels. i have had the bat fish over a month, and now she has a large sore over each eye, which i believe to be head and lateral line disease. all water tests are within range, so i'm assuming it's a nutrient deficciency. she gets krill everyother day, and macroalgae and freeze dried tubifex worms everyday. i bought vitachem today and soaked her krill in it before feeding her. i also bought garlic guard but am not sure when to use it on her food. when we bought the tank, it came with immuno-vital marine with beta glucan, but i'm not sure if this any good, should i add it to my tank. what else can i do to help my fish?

What are "within range" water parameters? Do you have the exact readings?
Is 100 gallons big enough for a batfish? I'm not flaming you, I'm just not sure if I read somewhere before that they need really large tanks.

ammonia is 0 nitrites 0.5 nitarates 10 salinity 1.022 ph 8.3 . the guy i got her from had her living in a 20 gallon tank for 5 months and before that she was in a 75 gallon tank. so i don't think the tank size has any thing to do with her problem

Do you know why you have nitrites?

Salinity seems low, PH seems a hair high, should have no trites. How long has your tank been set up?

when we got the batfish, a few days later we had major ammonia spike, off the charts. did water changes every other day, trites never went back to 0. spoke to dealer she said such low trite level wont make difference, some of her tanks always have trite levels. was told to keep salinity between 1.021 and 1.024 and marine ph should be 8.3 the tank was set up in june added live rock, mid july added damsels got bat fish 3 weeks after.

Despite what your lfs person said, it is NOT okay to have any nitrites in your system. Nitrites are harder on fish than ammonia is.

I'm not sure, I've never used that stuff. If you are still cycling at this point WC's will only prolong the cycle. Do you have a QT you can move the fish to?

No HLLE is not contagious, but the conditions that created the HLLE can result in more fish contracting the condition.
I'm not sure that looks like HLLE anyway. Perhaps more of a skin deterioration due to very poor living conditions.
I would say that the fish is deteriorating due to the totally inappropriate living conditions it has been subjected to. Way too small tanks in the past, and the nitrites now.
Why do you have nitrites? What are you feeding this fish? Do you know anyone who might be able to take this fish off your hands and give it a proper environment? 100 gal is too small for this fish.
Do you have a QT? The fish needs antibiotics at this point.

Nitrites will get rid of themselves as the tank cycles. Ammonia forms, then the bacteria turnes it to nitrites then to nitrates then nitrogen gases....

she gets krill, macroalgae strips, and freeze dried tubifex worms everyday. she will only eat food that is hand fed to her. i have tried giving her flake and pellets, but since she can't eat them from your hand she wont eat them. the reason we took this fish is because of the conditions she had been living in. the guy i got her from was going to put her in a 5 gallon bucket because it was too expensive to feed her and he didn't want her any more. she had the large bump on her nose when we got her.
