if i were to get a huge pot, full of water with some contraption over it, so that when it boils it goes through this contraption, into a container, and theni could let this water cool and put it in my tank, would this be better say then a ro?

not to sure on this one but unless i am mistaken than boiling the water will not kill every thing for instance chlorine and copper but then again i may be mistaken

I believe that you will find that boiling the water will cost more that an ro/di unit which will give you as high a quality water you will need.. why spend the extra money even if it would wk.

What your describing fishman, is basically distilling. Sounds like to much work and you could still have things like phosphates in your water. If you don't wanna buy an Ro/DI unit then the next best thing would be to buy RO/DI water or distilled water from somewhere.

i think im gonna get a ro/di because it thing it would be to much of a hassle to ask my parents for a ride to go get teh water

You could learn how to distill some brew and then sell it to some drunks and buy yourself a nice RO/DI unit...or you could just tell your parents (and other family members) you want one for Christmas...

Sucking up is ok..when done in moderation...marine aquaria is far for enjoyable the pool...
You could always through the "Iam interested in marine biology for college.." type of line too...elders always love the save the whales type stuff...
