AquaC Remora. Nothing else is even in the same league.
The Deltec MCE600 blows away an AquaC Remora....but, the big drawback is it's about twice the price. I love mine though.

Never heard of it, so I just googled it. Looks like it operates in a similar fashion to the Remora, but the collection cup doesn't look very large. It also looks like it's designed for larger aquariums than the Remora. I still think the Remora's a better choice for a 30 gallon tank.

I ran my Deltec on a 29 gal. for two years before upgrading to my current 50 gal. Yeah, I agree that a Remora is probably a better choice only because of the price difference. I had extra money to blow at the time and do not have a sump so I took the plunge and bought this skimmer because I wanted the best HOB available. Some of the best features of this skimmer is that the pump is inside the skimmer body so you don't have a big pump hanging in your tank and the skimmer runs almost silent, which is very hard to find in an HOB. You are correct in your observation that the collection cup is small. It's a common complaint from Deltec owners.

i like the aqua c remora. and i like The AquaC Urchin for in sump purposes.
my next question is, the urchin is rated for 20-75 gallons with a rio 800, could i down size this pump to either a 400 or 600 to reduce the rate of skimming the skimmer will do?
please dont ask why, just let me know if its possible. im up to something. :)

The pumps are interchangeable, but the skimmer may need a minimum gph to even function. In other words, I have no idea.

why? ***) i wouldn't. don't ask why.. but yeah you could downsize if the pump fits. imo the skimmer is not going to be as efficient. i would control the skimming rate with the collection cup. skim wetter/dryer :happyfish

well im going to be running the fiji mud number one. im trying to boost my overall phytoplankton and other micro-organisms of the tank that are normally sucked out of the water with over skimming.
so i want to get a smaller skimmer, and then put an even smaller pump on it so that its maybe only doing 30 gallons or so.
this is not something i can be talked out of, :)
so just help me try and figure this out.
the point that rbaldo brings up is a valid one though, a smaller pump might not allow the skimmer to work at all?
is this a valid point?
im going to call the main company tommorow and ask them for sure.

i wasn't going to talk you out of it, but yeah i see what your trying to do. and in that case i would definitly do it. call the the retailer and ask what's the lowest pump you can run on it. if they can't help u. then just try out a small pump and if you're getting any amount of skimmate , It's working.. ***)
