How big is the hole?
What does it look like exactly?
Does it go all the way through the star's body or is it a surface flesh wound of some kind?
Is it on the top of his center disk or on the bottom?
If it's on the bottom, is it possible that the "hole" is actually the star's mouth?
A bit more description of the hole would help... a pic would help even more.

It has a hole strait though the starfish. It is in the center of his body.

I've had this happen a couple of times to the same star.I think it was caused by it trying to eat too large a portion.
Both times I held off on direct feeding till the hole started to heal and it was completely healed w/in 12 days both times. It hasn't reoccured in at least 5 months.Good Luck.

I had the same thing happen to my red serpent star. A fish died in my tank and he proceeded to eat him. Problem is that he didn't stop eating the fish and the fish was stuck through him like a

How long has he had the star?
What color is it?
How old is the tank?
What does he feed it?
What are the water paremeters, especially pH, salinity?
Any water changes recently?
Did it lose any arms?
This can be caused, usually depending on the species, by eating too large a meal, or by osmotic shock. It is important to know more about what happened. Typically, they can easily recover from eating injuries, and often from osmotic shock injury, but not always. Usually it is best to leave it in the tank (do not remove to another tank). Remove anything that might be picking at it (or place the brittle in a critter cage in the tank). Try offering food.
