So, I just got home from dinner with friends. I check up on my new frag room. I turned on the lights(ceiling fixture), and there it was. An octopus the size of a quarter. Successfully removed it from one of the frag tanks and put it my quarintine tank with a couple of rocks. I'll try to get some pics in the morning.

It came in with a small colony of shrooms, I think. Thats the only peace big enough for it to hide. The rest of the tank is full with ricordea polyps, no lr.

I don't think they have a long life and yes they are likely to climb out. You have to use locks on the top. cover power heads. They like to go into things. They don't encounter power heads in nature. They also have to be fed clams, shrimp and muscles. they are messy. They are usually only good for a octi specific tank. One ink and your tank is toast.
Take it to the LFS asap. Or take a wad of cash to the lfs and start buying stuff.

I had one mine never inked. They need a species only tank and won't live that long. Take it to your LFS.

ehhh the ink isnt THAT big a deal with these little guys...I think I had 1 or 2 of my octos in some..they jet out only a small amount. the ones I had atleast..just did a small waterchange and never impacted anything. Carbon would help that as well.

I dont see it anywhere.
The small piece of lr does have small caves, probably in hiding. I'll try to get pics tonight after lights out.

They like to hide, I hear astroturf around the opening usually stops them, they don't like the feel of it. The little ones only live about six months max so you should keep it, go buy some hermits and snails for food.

Yeah you won't see it at all basicly. I only had two small pieces of lr, thinking I could see it better, but it wasn't comfortable so it his and I only saw it a couple of times. The more lr it has the safer it will feel which means it will come out and explore. I was thinking of doing a couple of dwarf octo's and try to breed them in my 20g, but decided not to.

I believe I would have to set something up for him. Maybe your LFS will take him for a credit? He will make short work of a standard tank!
