I have spent a LOT of money on corals, but the ones I have grown myself seem to mean more to me LOL...I know none of these are "special" BUT they are HOME GROWN

Behind the PH is a small mushroom that I took off a colony (from 54g) now in 225G

I feel the same way. The little 8 gal is going to be stocked from the 90. I plan on fragging many of my "zoos" as well as mushrooms and such. I have been reading on some fragging techniques and hope all goes well. The big green monti looks a lot like mine. Yours just looks smaller

Well Gill....the Montis in the 225G are 2-3"...the one in the 29G is about 4" in length....it was a teeny piece when I got it
AND I have not fragged any ZOAS yet.....I'm actually a little scared too

I have seen people cut zoas bare handed and I have seen people cutting with gloves and eye protection. I know for a fact that if you get that slim in a cut or an eye or mouth then you are in for trouble. I think as with anything be careful and take your time. Im going to do it. I may have to send you a frag. BTW I was just jking about the monti. It really looks good.

I know you were kidding....LOL......I'm not scared about the zoas for my health....just scared to cut them

I moved a rock next to some, hoping they will spread to it, then I could just move the rock

Well thats just crazy. Why are you scared to cut them or is it that they are live animals and that freaks you out?

As you know I lost most of my corals to the broken heater incident. The GSP, mushrooms and zoa (ZOON is plural) are all that is left. I have had more joy watching them open and spread than any of the ones I have ever purchased.
Before the heater incident, I had my Xenia melt into a pile of goo…bad lights, after a month of good lights tiny baby Xenia appeared, and grew into quite a crop and covered the left side of my tank, they were so beautiful and resilient, I loved them. They were totally killed when the heater broke, and my greatest sense of loss.

Crap Flower, I am having my morning coffee and you about made me cry! Thats the sadist thing. Every time I read about someones heater breaking it makes me want to take my heater out of my tank. Im going to buy a titanium one very soon.
Lets call them zoos! <---- My new cause to fight for.

That's my favorite part of coral..how they grow and make new coral!
I had to make my 46 gallon for a frag tank and it's filled up from my 12 gallon nano already :p I actually have 12 pieces on the BAY right now with about 11 hours to go....lots of watchers :) :) :)
If you need help fragging zoas let me know. I can do my best to walk you through it. I don't use gloves either...you can call me stupid... ;)
Just remember: Don't cut the zoa like you would another coral..your goal is to keep the whole polyp intact..you'll want to cut the actual rock the zoa is attached to and not the zoa...BUT cutting the mat that the zoa uses to form new zoas is fine.

I would deff be interested. I got some lights coming next week for my 8 gal and I am going to start up another 10 gal for a frag tank. Hope to get all that up and running next week. Oh I guess I should mention something about Meowzers stuff seeing how this is her thread. Lets see.... what nice polyps you got!

One big tip for zoas is super glue gel. I don't know why it makes a difference but gel does work for them and regular super glue seems to kill them.
