Hi, I have started to collect ingredents for homemade fish food.
It was really funny to go to the supermarket and order 1 oyster, 1mohagony clam and 1 little neck clam. the guy asked, "just one???" and looked at me like i was crazy...
so this is what ive got so far.
meat:
1 oyster
1 mohogony clam
1 little neck clam
1 bag cooked shrimp
1 salmon fillet
vegies:
spinach
im going to go to LFS to get vitamins, and garlic elixor. but what kind???
is there anything else i need???
proportions of salmon & shrimp?
i dont have a food processor, so im going to have to do some mincing, unless i see one at the store, anyone know how much these run?
lots of questions I know, thanks for your time!

Well you can use real garlic but if you don't have a food processor I would suggest Kents Marine Garlic Xtreme.
I just made my first batch of food myself and I used my food processor and use real garlic. The fish LOVE it. However, I have purchased Kents from that major auction site as well as a small food processor that I will use ONLY for making my fish food. I only paid like 12 bucks including shipping for the food processor. Look there they have some cheap ones but watch out for shipping that is what usually gets ya.
I read on another post that for salmon to use just a thin slice of salmon as to much salmon can be bad. I have also read that it is best not to use cooked items as alot of the nutrients is cooked out. However I have also read on here that several people do use cooked.
Here is what I used
a few cubes each of mysis and brine shrimp (because I have them)
4 uncooked shrimp (peeled of course
)
1 clove garlic
handful of fresh spinach
handful of marine flakes
handful of shrimp pellets (because I have them)
a little RO water
Now once I use all the mysis and brine cubes I will probably just use fresh food. Maybe use some mysis. I like making it, and my fish love it.

Someone else told me that too. They said it was from they oyster and they wouldn't use the oyster again. So you could consider that.
The salmon sounds yummy :jumping:

My husband and I like seafood soup, so when I go to the store and get the mixed bag of seafood, and also get salmon (I only used a little bit of that).. and scallops.. mixed it all together with garlic (2 cloves) I also add cyclopez, 2 sheets of seaweed, one green and one brown, and a little water and my fish luv it.. I got my recipe from one of snailheave's posts.. my fish love it.

Hey Misty......How bout directions for the soup? And, we are land locked here. So, I have never heard of a mixed bag of seafood. Is it frozen? What is in it?

Is the mixed bag cooked?? I have not been able to find a raw bag of mixed seafood yet. If it is raw please tell me where you get it.

I use a handful of unpeeled raw shrimp, scallop and some white fish if we have any in the house. I chop it finely by hand, I used a food processor the first time but prefer the hand chop. I felt that the machine left too much inedible mess that the fish could not eat and just gunked up the water. I mix in some garlic juice and wrap it up sushi style in seaweed sheets. I then freeze it and cut up slices and keep it in the freezer. I make enough for a few weeks, relatively low mess and everyone is happy. I will throw in a pack of formula two fozen cubes into the concoction from time to time.
