To go down, just replace evaporated water with regular RO water. Although this may be too slow, over several days, your pH will drop.
Don't know about going up. If you find out, let me know.

don't know about home remedies but I use Kent pro buffer dKH. Its reletively cheap at the LFS's and works great!

a tip from my lake malawi tank experience. to increase ph and buffering, just throw some baking soda in the tank. in freshwater i used ABOUT 2 tablespoons per 5 gallons. i spoke with my lsf (he has bs in marine bio)about correct dosage and he surmised that you really can't overdose with it due to its maximum ph/buffering (greek to me). my lake malawi tanks held 8.0 ph with plain gravel substrate. prior reply about coral is true, coral should leech and help keep ph up. never had to lower ph....

pH sometimes needs to be lowered in tanks with coral (calcite) or arragonite substrate. Practice does not always follow theory. :)
As for baking soda, I tried this approach in a simple glass of fresh RO water. I could not raise the pH at all. The pH was sitting somewhere below 7, and I could not get it up no matter how much I put in. However, when I tested the alkalinity, it was through the roof. I have also read another person's post regarding similar results using one of those "instant 8.2" products, which is apparently a pH buffer of some sort.
It may work for you, but it didn't for me. If you try it, just try it on a sample of tank water first.
Cheers,

baking soda with raises alk fast ph slowly. Soda ash(not that I would use it in a aquarium) raises ph fast, alk slow. As per the freshwater swimming pool industry here in florida.
