I bought one of the ice cap ones withthe thermostat this summer and it hasn't gone offf yet. We'll see what it does this winter. It kept my tank cool though after adding new light so I'm happy with it.
I added 2 12v computer fans to my hood so if/when it got hot, had a/c problems etc, I am not scrambling to try to fix it then. Can turn them on whenever needed. A cheap $20.00 insurance policy...
ya 12v are all over the place (computer stores) but they requre a 12v powersupply.. 120v are direct connect, but harder to find.. radio shack sells them, but i just checked to order me a pair and they are outa them
I purchased the Radio shack 3 inch 120v fans. Quickly found out that they are extremly noisy. However the 4 inch fans are MUCH quieter and move more air. I read that you do not want to have cooling fans blowing directly on MH bulbs. I have 2 fans, one blowing in and one sucking out. Seems to work really well.
Is this nessary though it you just have a retro kit. I mean my ballast are not in the conopy. I know that is one conceren with the fans and a conopy. It does not seem to get very hot in there. i have 2 65 watt Custom Sea Life smartlight retro kits. I dont have any fans. Think I should look into it?
