I went to work today and all of my fish were fine. When I got home all of my fish were dead. Somehow while I was at work my tank crashed. The only things I was able to save were my cleaner shrimp and my pistol shrimp and a couple hermit crabs. Everything else gone
2 clowns
flame hawkfish
flame angelfish
yellow tang
watchmen goby (my very first fish)
sailfin blenny
sixline wrasse
All dead
The blenny and one clown are still MIA
The only thing me and my LFS could figure out was a ph drop
My LFS is babysitting the crabs and shrimp for me until I get the tank set back up. A good thing is that the only two employees at the LFS are brothers and there always there at the same time so what they are babysitting they wont sell accidentally :)
They were both very encouraging they want me to come in every day and give them updates so they can help me get my tank back up. They said theyre going to give me massive discounts on the fish when I start getting them again (they're the only place Ive ever bought fish or anything from).
Im kinda in a state of sadness right now because of it but Im kinda happy I can start with a clean plate

If it was electrical wouldn't everything be dead?
I forgot to mention the sixline was alive when I got home cut barely. He didn't make it :(

Heater works the temperature stays at a steady 80.6
I checked the electricity on everything and it was all great

electricity wont kill inverts unless it is a ton of juice, has to do with the fact they have exoskeletons.

How long has your tank been cycled? I've only been keeping SWF for about 2 and 1/2 years, but I've never seen a PH swing that could wipe out fish that quickly. I don't think I could see anything good about that if it happened to me. I have too much time and money wrapped up in my slimy friends to see a clean plate.

wow that is horrible. i would agree that i don't think it is ph. That would take longer. I think it has to be something really sudden, like electricity. Or do you think that someone would have dumped something in your tank either on purpose or accident?

No it couldn't be that. I was at work and so were my mom and dad
(my dad is a firefighter and my mom is a school librarian)
Im leaning towards electricity now kinda Ill discuss it with Adam and Jeremy tmrw (lfs owners)

Any chance of a loss of power during the day? If all pumps shut off a warm tank loses oxygen quicker than you would think.

what size tank cause it's possible that you overloaded your tank with fish.

what are all of your water params at? do you have a test kit or do you go by strictly what the "brothers" tell you ?

I tested my own water also and it was the same. The tank was overloaded with fish If it was I would realize it because I was testing my water ever other day (also if it was that wouldnt the cleaner shrimp and crabs dies be dead also).

I am really sorry for your loss, I tend to agree with the electricity theory, I dont think pH or high stock level will wipe an entire tank in a few hours, something drastic must have happen, I did not need to read this 3 days before going on vacation and the tanks will alone for 5 days...

yes it is...depending on how long he's had them in there to begin with. alls it takes is one thing to stress out a tank. once you find out what stresses the fish, that is your problem. over crowding a tank is a definite stresser.
