I have never actually tried to keep one alive. I got one in a SWF package about six months ago. I see him time to time making the buggs bunny hump going through the sand bed but other than that he does his thing, I do mine. I do find him in a current battle playing pinball off the tank walls as the powerheads come off and on sometimes, but I just nab him with my hand and set him back to the sand only to watch him look for a new place in the sand to roam.
I did notice you have a ten gallon tank comming soon. Is this what your going to put him in? If so I must warn you that they get a foot in diameter. I have picked them up at Ripley's in the smokey mountains. They have a pool of them and they are huge.
Mine started at less than an inch. He has grown to about 1.25 now. If he gets too big I plan to take a trip to the beach and aclimate him into the ocean. I read an artical on doing this and it seemed pretty strait fwd. If not that I will donate him to Ripley's in Myrtle beach.
Does anyone have a growth rate on these guys? Mine grew fast when he was tiny but has slowed alot. Is this due to his tank size?
