I had one about 4 years ago. It was usually under the sand. You could see where it was because the sand would be higher above it. It was quite active. It often knocked over my rocks & corals. It was fast growing. It grew from about 1" to over 3" in a few months. Then I decided to get rid of it. I read that they eat too much of the good stuff in sand. It was very hardy.

i also have to agree they move the sand very well,,,,seem to be hardy and i know by seeing them washed up on the beach they do get the size of a nice 17 " monitor not including the tail... and they do stick to the anemones sometimes...... but i have to say they do add some humor to the tank....

I had one for 6 months but when i was moving my rock work i crushed it becuase i didnt see it was hiding in the sand where i moved my rock.
