I dont get it. rust is bad in our tanks, but how do we avoid it? I have a hose clamp on the PH for my phos reactor and then one for my skimmer.

Is the clamp in the tank? Use one of those plastic zip tie thingys

they are both in the return section of my filter. I dont know if I could trust the zip ties to hold the hoses in place

Zip ties will work fine I use zip ties on all of my hose connections and I can't pull them off. I left the ties on my pumps slightly loose so that there is still some resistance to keep it from blowing off but loose enough that I can remove the hose from the pump for maintence without cuttting the zip tie

first step is to admit it right?

I am always finding something that I need. especially right now since I am trying to set up the remote sandbed and to convert my wet/dry into a sump type.

I use the stainless steel ones, just have to replace them every few years when they start to rust, the plastic ones dont have enough resistance for my pumps. I have 2 1200gph pumps and tried them and the force made them loose and came off (thank god i get my hose a little bit to small and heat seal it onto my pump fittings)

Plastic zip ties do work just fine, on just about any setup. If you have a high pressure setup, double/triple up on the zipties....

ehh, the plastic clamps are easier to reuse though when you have to disconnect hoses for cleaning

I use good quality stainless steel clamps, I found that the screw always rusts inside of them, so it isn't actually the clamp but the screw. It doesn't hurt anything, I haven't changed them yet.
