Hi all
I had to set up an emergency hospital tank for the Cortez angel that I have been posting about. Actually, I already had it ready to go but hadn't yet filled it when he came down with ich in the display tank. So, I set up the hospital tank with water from the display tank, but the filter is new with no bacteria growing on it.
I used no substrate and I placed a large black PVC elbow in for him to hide in if he wants. The filtration is a simple Penguin power filter biowheel that moves 150 GPH. The tank is small, just a 10 gallon, but he's small too (3 inches) so I hope he'll be OK in a tank that small for the time it takes to treat him.
What can I do to assist the cycle in this tank since the Cortez is already in there? I have been changing about 1/2 to 1 gallon of water per day to make sure that levels of ammonia or anything else don't build. I am testing the water daily and so far it tests fine but seems cloudier than when I started it up. I limit feeding but don't want the fish to starve, so he eats a tiny bit every other day. I only place enough in to be sure that he consumes it all and try to remove what he doesn't eat.
I am worried about doing water changes because I don't want to stress him more by a possiblity of fluctuations in salinity and temps, plus it's hard to know how much medication is in the water if I am continually removing and adding water. I haven't had a chance to get a copper test kit but will try to get one today.
Any recommendations??
