hospital tank

ok...i just got my fuse up and running and now i think im going to start on my hospital tank. i have a 10 gal tank ( i know its small, but its free cuz i already have it ) im going to use. how much ls and lr need to go into a hosp. tank? does it need to cycle the same as any other tank? all i was going to use for filtration was a big hang on filter w/ duel bio wheels, will that be ok? (remember its just a hosp. tank/ pre big tank tank) will it need its own skimmer? anyone used one of those skilter, hope thats how you spell it. is it a skimmer and filter in one? how do they work? i think thats all for now:thinking: it i think of something else ill stick on here later.:yes:

I wouldn't use any LR or LS if you are using it as a QT. I think most people go bare bottom and add some pvc pipes for fish to hide in.

I could be wrong, so hopefully someone with a QT will respond, but I don't think you want the bio wheel on a QT. I think it would absorb any medication you are adding.
As for the protein skimmer . . . since you shouldn't have fish in there very often and will be running just salt water most of the time you probably won't need one.

you do want to go bare bottom and use a regukar hangon filter. You may want to take the wheels off because you don't want anything that will absorb the medications. Also you may want to add a small docile fish, so you keep your bio load and take cycled. Empty water sitting there may loose bacteria!

What type fish you plan on keeping? A 10 gallon tank is very small but can handle small fish in QT.
In my opinion. a QT tank should house the amimals comfortably.

I've always wondered that Scuba. Seems like people have small QT tanks and if you have a sick tang or something like that, won't it make it worse for the sick fish because now it's stressed in the small tank?

well i really only plan on getting one more fish that would be questionable. i eventually want a powder blue tang, but it will be small when i get it so it should be ok for now and when its gets to the point that it would be counter-productive ill get a bigger tank. this will be my little experiment so i "know" what to/how to do on my second one.:joy:

Search for QT by Beth. Best QT tank info I have found and always give ppl info from it. I would follow it to a T and you should be fine.

I have a 20 gal QT. It is bare bottom with a couple of those fake coral houses for the fish to hide in. I use a bio-wheel in my main tank, but like they said above, I'm pretty sure it can be detrimental if you use medications. Also, don't some medications kill the bacteria on the wheel, anyway?
I quarantined a yellow tang for eight days in the tank, and he was fine. I didn't have the space or $$ to set up the recommended 75 gallon tank to use for a QT for the tang.

Are the Tang Police going to get me now? Just kidding.
I know I'm get some boos and hisses, but I used Cycle in the tank when I brought a fish in. Gladly, I'm all stocked now, so medical issues in the future will be my only concern.
