ive read posts from this board for almost a year now, but lately ive seen much more tension between memebers. It just seems that lots of posts are getting away from helping others and focusing more on insults. People trying to push the rules, some not willing to help, others being accused of lying??? Maybe its not my right to say this, but i enjoy this board and have recieved lots of info from it-- but people just need to help others and not get off subject.

OH YEAH!!, well my favorite color is orange you liar! :D
I completely agree with you Aggie. Must be something in the water. I hope that things start to clear up with folks around here.......not as inviting as some would hope.

I agree...and I think it has to do with some recent members coming in and starting trouble.....but in the long run things work out. Trouble members are turned away eventually and things go back to normal. I sincerely believe that the core group of members and the constant addition of new members makes this one of the best forums I've been involved with. We have a great assortment of individuals with a broad range of knowledge and experience and for the most part folks are able and willing to help anybody in need. I'd hate to see problems of a temporary nature change that!
Plus...rest assured that the moderators here do actively attempt to control problems as the arise...personally its not a pleasent task...but I feel we do a decent job considering the volume of traffic we have here. I know I daily check as many posts in the reef forum as possible...but still miss chances to either help or curtail potential problems....My e-mail is posted on my website and I'm open to contacts if that would help....but rest assured I do try to keep things as smooth and trouble free as I can. I have confidence that the other moderators do also. If there ever is a specific situation you feel needs addressed feel free to contact me direct and I will look into it.
Wow...for me that was a major speech!!

I haven't observed any of this activity. So, either you're calling me stupid, or you're lying. WHICH IS IT? J/K. It's sorta like being thrown in a Damsel-Tank for all of the newer members. Let's hope we can straighten this out.

Yes A&M you are right,
I am a member of another forum for electrical and it is actually a lot of fun over there. There is much joking around over there. It may have a smaller number of members, but also no flaming is allowed. If someone tries it the other members will speak out, if it is too bad the moderators will delete the post and warn the person. I believe they have even kicked people off the forum before. No disrespect meant Sammy oh salt water forum god.
Can't we all just get along.

very well said.
All of this accusing someone of being someone else from before or really belittleing someone because they are unexperienced/young/immature should stop. We see it here on at least a weekly basis lately and posts aren't being locked by the mods(Ie. post about FIRE!! ..several people flamed the hell out of the poor guy...i mean, GET A LIFE). I, personally have lost a lot of respect for certain members of this board over the last while simply because of how they choose to deal with other members questions and/or comments.

I remember in all my management classes we talked about group dynamics, and there are four stages. forming-storming-norming-and I can't remember number 4. Anyway it talks about how even large groups will go through this cycle all over again. About 1,1/2 months ago I got called out old west style by a member. I've been doing the bulletin board thing for years and have never seen that, I think it made me hostile for a little while, but now I try to stay calm now, and am less liekly to get involved in posts unless it is a members name I recognize(kind of sad:( )

As of late, especially in the thread by about adding more fish to a 35 gallon already holding a tang and an angel and other fish, I mayhave gotten a little out of hand. But, some people make me really angry, especially when they know that they're doing something wrong and, even worse, harmful, and do it anyway. But I will try to layback a little. I should know that talking to people like that will never convince them to do what is needed. Please forgive! :)

You know, it's funny that this thread started. I had written a "Dear John" letter to this forum a couple of nights ago and decided not to send it because I didn't want it to represent me while I was angry. I cited the VERY reasons that were listed above.
This is a cool site and a cool community. I didn't want to leave but it was getting ridiculous.
Thanks for bringing this up! Things seem to be improving over the last couple of days.

As for myself, I have made plenty of stupid mistakes in my 7 short months in this hobby. I accept the criticism from whomever it comes. I encourage anyone to speak their mind about any of my posts or replies to posts that I have made or make in the future. Please do not ignore me if I am totally off base or just a plain jacksass for what I am saying. I am on this forum to learn first and if I think I can help someone, I will try. There are plenty of good people with experience and the right ideals on this forum to overshadow the idiots. Please speak your minds with me.

all anyone can do is give good advise, you cant physically make someone not put what they want in their tank. Some will listen some wont. Lets all just give the best information to our knowing and leave it at that, b/c i for one need this site to learn.

just so you know i love you all! and not in any weird way. i think ive been on this board for a couple years now and have seen lots of people come and go, and your right it does cycle, sometimes members will be super agressive towards posts that dont deserve teh agression. drink a beer (or milk or whatever if your not old enough) relax, and love everyone!
good luck

I just read the post "FIRE", and I am not supprised.
I too thoght I knew it all (before a tank crash) and was hostile toward "those newbies". Ya know..I'd had may tank st up for 'almost' 6 months...I was a veteran!
Very few things had had a chance to die.
I found out that nitrates climb, decline, and most importantly...kill slowly.
The reason that we all signed on this board is to learn something. If you (I) knew it all and had a happy tank... this BB would be bare.
As we learn through our own mistakes, let's not forget that we are not the first to make that mistake ...nor will we be the last.

well i have not been posting on this forum for a long time at all, but i have kind of seen the actions that you mention. I am a member on numerous web boards and no matter what, there will always be trolls and people that just come in to flame others and start trouble. give it time and they'll go away

We need to always have the hobbiest and critters well being at heart. Also everyone has to have open listening or why post? SOmetimes it does get a bit frustrating when suggestions are made based on experience and they are ignored. While some may believe that it's ok to waste money, I don't believe it's ok to waste fish lives. This type of approach can and will lead to this hobby being legislatively restricted and none of us want that.
So let's chill, give advice and listen and all will be good.....oh that feels good....and.....this is my 500th post!...I'm now a titan trigger!! How far is that away from a shark...light years I suppose.

broncofish,
#4 is performing
back to the thread
one thing we all need to remmeber is that there is alot of passion in this hobby by many, so sometimes we do get tialed easily
but we also have to remember taht unless it is a problem, like the thread in question, often iti is a serious question, if not a reality that was a good question that should and could make a good topic.
Lets all try and help each other out
besides, we all were there, needing advice at least once.
