ive heard of clown fish hosting corals, is this bad for the coral? is there a way to influence them in to changing where they are hosting?

I doubt the hosting would ever hurt the coral unless it is aggressive like a maroon clownfish. Clownfish hosting an anemone is a part of nature and you can't change nature! If you don't like what it is hosting you can move it to a different tank or sell it and it may host something else. But I would not recommend this because you are basically taking its home away! Why would you want to do that?
 
Depends on the coral. If the clownfish is rough it could cause harm to the coral. You just have to monitor and you can tell if the coral isn't doing its usual thing. You could try moving the coral to a different spot in the tank if you are concerned. This doesn't mean the clownfish won't find it again or try hosting a different coral.
