Hot tub pump

Hey Guy's -
I am thowing out an old hot tub and thought I would strip it of its parts. I know the pump is still fully functional. Does any one have any ideas on what I could use it for (if anything)?
It just seems like it would come in handy with a new system I am about to build.

I used to work for a hot tub manufacturing company and to answer your question....depends on the pump. If you are talking about a primary pump (usually a 56 frame 120v 1 1/2" - 2" flow) then that may be too much for smaller tanks. Primary pumps can run as high as 800-1100gph. However, if your hot tub was equipped with an ozone or skimmer pump..they are usually 1/4hp pumps and are great for what you have in mind. I grabbed one from a demo spa that was being torn down and plan on using it for my next tank (hopefully 300). It has a 550gph rating...very quiet and small.

I doubt it can stand up to the saltwater.........you'll need to know what the metal contact parts are made of.

Most hot tub pumps have polyfiber impellers and sealed with chemical resistant rubber seals. If they can withstand chlorine, bromine and every other chemical people put in.....it would stand up to salt pretty well.

What brand pumps are they? Im using hayward 1hp pool pumps on my tank now. They can run a little hot so be careful. They are saltwater rated.

Hayward are pretty good. Waterway, Franklin and AquaFlo are also pretty good.
