Hours Of Light?

How many hours a day does everyone or anyone keep their lights on? I was told from my LFS 8 would be enough for soft corals.
What do you think?

My MH are on 8 hrs and 2 Actnics are on for 8 hrs and 2 10ks are on for 5hrs. Kind of dusk dawn setup and worked well for about 3yrs now.

So far I've turned them on before I go to work and off when I go to bed. That adds up to about 14 hours a day. My LFS told me that is way to much and I'm just going to grow algae doing that. I'm going to get some timers tonight. Thanks for the info.

Unless you're into algae farming you really shouldn't have your MH's on for more than 6 hrs a day. IME

I'm sorry, it was below at the time. My bad. It moves.
So, I'll give you my response here since I steered you in the wrong direction previously.
I have only PC lighting on my tank.
I work it for a total of 12 on and 12 off.
My actinic PCs come on an hour before, and stay on an hour after my 10Ks.
My 10ks stay on for 10 hours in between that.
My corals seem to like it this way. I haven't seen any recession or anything. It may vary a little as the light bulbs go bad after about roughly a year. But, the bulbs should be replaced then instean of changing the light regimen.
