How can I get rid of waste in the bottom?

I have a 30G tank and I noticed a lot of waste in the bottom. Is there a way to siphon the waste in the bottom without siphoning the sand. Thanks

Make the sand live sand. Manually remove it with a net. Add power heads to lightly blow it off. Those are a few ways to do it. Getting a DSB (deep sand bed) would be your best bet.

If you don't have a deep sand bed, just a bed 2" or less, i'd suggest getting a sand sifting goby like a dimond or blue cheek or maybe a sand sifting starfish. Do you have many pods in your tank? Thats what these critters eat so if you get one of these make sure you have food for them to eat or they will starve. These guys really do a good job of turning the sand. HTH

I use a Brittle star and a few scarlet hermits to keep my gravel very clean.
Gobies can damage corals while sifting sand especially corals that can't remove the stray sand from their body.
