How come the aquarium is the most used forum....This is a fish/coral site people!!!!!

I agree with this 100%. I'm rarely ever on this forum anymore in favor of the other big saltwater forum... things haven't been too exciting here lately.

It all a big cycle. You start perusing and then finally register. Next you post up asking questions. As you learn the answers, you get eager to share it with others and strive for the 1000 post count. Then the next phase is correcting others bad information. Then you get a bit jaded and ask yourself, "Does there really need to be 15 replies on a thread regarding a water change?"
Then you reside in the Aquarium and end up like me. You try to leave the site but you can't. There are just too many good people around here.

I still cruise the other areas of this forum. However I think it's unnecessary to repeat the same advice if I think that sound advice has already been given. For instance, if the thread, "Can I keep a naso tang in my 40 gallon tank" has no replies then I may chime in. If it already has 15 responses, what's the point?
Besides, if you are not looking for advice or information, then the Aquarium is more entertaining then the other categories.

I used to post in the other forums quite a bit... but 2 main reasons I dont anymore.
#1 Redundancy!

Yeah I understand!!! sheesh.....but hey look where I am right now.....the aquarium.....
! Another thing I have recently noticed is a SLEW of like 13 year olds getting into this. And threads that have 5 pages of chat to 3 pics posted. Strange how much it has changed since I started like two years ago or so.

I pretty much agree...
I used to answer all the questions instead of just telling people to search for them, and now it's getting so repetitive. It is fun to make fun of the newbies giving bad information in threads.
So, now I'm stuck in the aquarium section of the site. I think there should be more games and photography contests and planned events. I think there should be more people with freaking awesome tanks to do journals. Personally, I like equipment and building questions better then livestock questions.
I think that swf.com could be soo much better then it is if some of the more experienced people got together and talked about how to improve the forums, then maybe more people will come and the site will be more interesting. Maybe we could even keep some of the experienced people around here.

I have to disagree with those saying the site has gone down hill. This is still the same great place that SWF has always provided for FREE. The only thing that changes are the members coming and going and current members levels of interest.
I can agree that I found the site more entertaining a year and a half ago but at that time I was in the hoenymoon stage of the hobby and there were some different characters around. Some have been banned some have moved on.

i have to agree with you sho... swf is a great place, although there has been a huge turnover in all the years that i have been here.
each forum is its own animal, and has its regulars.
if i need something, or i see an interesting thread title pop up, i'll venture to other forums. most of the time, i just hang here and chat. i have no problem participating in other threads in other areas when i see the need to.

The Aquarium is a necessary evil. For a topic-specific-forum (saltwater, planes, cars, etc) to have any staying-power and last, there has to be a successful 'off-topic' area. The truth of it is that not everyone can live in a certain field 24/7, so instead of leaving the site, they just go to the off-topic area. Then because they're still on the site, they hopefully migrate back and forth. It's also a way for members no longer active in the hobby to keep active.
I will agree with you peef, and say that around here, the Aquarium is unusally large/popular as a percentage of the whole forum, then other message boards. Not that it's necessary good or bad.
