well there are several different species of mysis shrimp and many are bred and tolerate salinity from 1.015 to full fledged saltwater (1.025). One breeding company who ships breeder mysis advises not to let sp. grav fall below 1.015 or breeding will stop. They are thought to be originally a pure saltwater shrimp that over time adapted to freshwater conditions. I've also read several places where they are often found where freshwater and saltwater meet (brackish areas).
either the case mysis dont pose any problems as hitch hikers. More than likely they'll just end up somethings dinner. I'm almost sure I have them. First I thought pods but then I noticed differrences:
pods: scatter quickly over the surface but not jumping or leaving the surface. quick at moving but sometimes slow finding holes to crawl in so you can get a good look. white in color.
what I believe may be mysis: when scattering for cover (like when shining a light on them) bounce, leap, dance very quickly in a small area near/in liverock for a short time before quickly finding cover obviously able to leave the surface. never am able to get a good solid look at their structure due to the movement even if it takes a few seconds before they find cover. arent white in color like pods (cant tell what color other than dark but not obvious white like most small pods).
Now I have some bigger pods (bigger than what I believe may be mysis,) that arent white (greyish) but they are so big and oblivious to red light they often just freeze or keep doing what they are doing for as long as I care to look. easy to see with the

eye. So if what I see dancing arent big pods or small pods what else besides mysis could they be? they are there each and every night I care to look in the tank.
