How do Frag Swaps work??

I was just wondering, what is a frag swap?
I assume it's one of those in door conventions where people have stands and stuff. You go there and buy frags and fish related stuff, or trade. Is that it?
My real questions are:
How can you see the frags you are buying?? I would think that after the move to the place, the frags wouldn't be open, and would be look funny and stressed. How do you see what it really looks like?
Also, where do you keep them? Does everyone looking to sell/trade bring a tank?
What about lighting?
Probably dumb questions, but I just don't get it.
THanks.

People bring lighting and tanks themselves and bags to put them in. They open up eventually. I've been known to buy them before they open...gotta snatch 'em up!
Usually, they will put them in separate bags or the same bags and bring the tanks and lighting. They will usually bring some water in gallon jugs to fill the tank with. When they hook everything up, they put the corals in the tank and bazam.
Just take them home in the bags

they have to put the corals in the tank a couple of hours before the swap starts so that the coral open up fully when people show up.

Yeah
...well I guess they don't HAVE to...but they usually do.
Did you go to the one in Indiana 2 weeks ago?

You go into a building with a wad of cash and leave with empty pockets.

Actually they are a great way to get nice corals at a fair price. Just be sure to dip all corals before you place them in your display tank. Best thing to do is quarantine them after dipping.
