how do i fit a protein skimmer in my tank

i have a 29 gallon aquarium with a emporer 400 filter and a powerhead on the back... I bought coralife pc lighting and i had to get a versatop to put on my tank due to water splashing from the filter...i know i should have a skimmer and i was going to buy one from my work tonight (the red sea berlin airlift 60 model i believe) but with the versatop on my tank how would that fit...the water level can only come up about halfway on the skimmer? i would put a refugeum in but there is no place in my room i could put it as my tank sits on my dresser, and i don't know how i would drill into my tank...any advice would be great...i'm not looking to spend too much money but if there is an alternative besides a refugeum, let me know! I'm not sure, but, I guess I would ditch the filter and invest in some LR. I have a 75 gal. FOWLR and all I have is 4 power heads and a skimmer. My inhabitants have been happy for over 2 years. Keep the bio-load down, feed correctly and be consistent with water changes.

i already have 50 lbs of lr in the tank -- cant add much more!!
