I have had an outbreak of Bristle Worms in my tank and am a little lost. Are they bad to have or helpful? What is the best way to get rid of them?

For the most part they are a great cuc, as long as they don't get to large. The best way I have found is a natural preaditor of them such as: coral banded shrimp, arrow crab or six line, ect. But anything helping us clean our tanks...... I will accept and welcome it (but always monitor it).

I've heard people say this and I wondering...how big does a bristle worm get? I have always seen them small and never large. A Bobbit worm (looks like a centipede) I know they are in the bristle worm family and they get really big, are you referring in them?

Biggest I pulled from my 24 was about 7 inches. (That was when the rock was new from store) haven't seen anything like it since, used a cbs to combat them. I've seen a pick where they were over foot long. Can't seem 2 find it now to refrence. I've know about them since 05 when I started.... did the same thing like narkfish, asked questions about them and studied about them a bit. So yes I am sure it was a britle worm I was talking about getting large. My coworkers 12 g tank had so many of them in it they ate a cbs and a arrow crab, he witnesses it both times. Its a coral only tank and doesn't get fed much other then coral additives so I thing the bristle worms did it out of desparation....... his are about 5-6 in long.

Look on utube and see some of these monsters flower! I agree though that most just stay small and are good at the cuc thing. They eat leftovers and detiuts...

There's over 10,000 different species of bristle worms and very few are harmful. You can try cutting back on the amount your feeding also. The less food, the less bristle worms.
