They can be very fickle, some of them grow all crazy and some not at all. I know that zoas taken from the sea take quite a while to begin growing in captivity where propagated will usually take right off. Ive noticed a lot more growth in mine since I really increased my flow, they simply love the flow. A lot of the time if they arent in good flow crud will collect around their bases, its a good idea to take a turkey baster and blow that stuff off every week or 2. Lighting is also important they seem to do best with moderate to high lighting, they will live down low and many will thrive there but it seems that most of them like a lot of light. Stable water parameters seem to help a lot too, your water doesnt have to be as perfect as with sps but its best that it remains stable. Good luck with your zoas,I notice you are from IN,I live in Indy and know several people/places to get good zoa frags cheap if you are near the area,pm me if you want and I can send you some links ect...

lighting is one of the key components. i've had mince under 150w mh's for well over a year. just recently switched over to t5's. there is new polyp growth almost daily.

Thats really interesting, so they started growing once you switched from MH's to T5's, this gives me a great idea for an experiment.

well, to make this clear, my zoas were at the bottom of my 135. probably close to 30" from my 150w mh. now in their current holding "cell" they are no more than 15" from my t5's. so not only was there a major increase in available light, they are much closer too.
but yes - an interesting experiment nonetheless. actually, i believe that there was supposed to be one on this forum, but nothing ever came of it, or people are waiting a certain amount of time to post pictures. let me try and find the link.....

i agree with sh00tist. i find that moderate-to strong lighting, pH, Alk seem to work as long as the parameters are where theyre supposed to be and are the same every week. i know the ones i had in my 28 liked flow as well. my friend has some in his 10g with a 70w mh that seem to really take off. but i think it also depends on the zoanthids themselves. he als has another type of zoanthid that grow slower

We just purchased a 29 gallon biocube. We set everything up step by step. The moment we put the filter cartridge in after rinsing it the overflow dropped and the output discharge nozzle blew out bubbles. We talked to the store were we purchased it and went over step by step again. We have done everything correctly. If we take out the filter cartridge it runs perfectly. It is installed the way the slots are to slide it in. I do however see in the instructions it should be facing the front of the tank. If we place it in that way it just floats around there is no slot. The only slot is sideways facing the bio balls filtration. We have taken out the filter pad and rinsed it again. We have gone back to the store were we purchased the biocube and bought new filters paying for them and still doesn't work. I don't see any paperwork on troubleshooting that came with the system. We currently own a 120 gallon tank with a wet/dry system so we have a good understanding of how it works. It doesn't make any sense as to why it drains the over flow area as soon as we install the filter. The only thing is the picture shows the filter facing in a different direction and it does not fit properly if we try to install it that way. The water goes all around the filter not only through it would which defeat the purpose of the filter.
Can anyone help me? This is my first time on the site so please bare with me I am not sure how to post and reply.

You should start a new thread either under the "New Hobbyists" or the "Nano Tanks" section. Either way, for future reference, it's best to start a new thread for questions unrelated to the original posting.

alright i have mine at the bottom bc i went from a 160 watt light to 384 and i thought that would be to much. so i have moved them up. also my nitrates are at 0 i stopped feeding the liquid with some water changes and it is perfect.

Try mixing some Oyster Eggs, just a little drop, or Cyclops to your feeding every 3 days or so.... Your corals will explode!!!
