How do I kill GSP!?

ok, so I had my GSP on an isolated rock...next thing I know they snuck up behind it where I couldn't see and are starting to spread on a huge rock full of corals...
long story short...is there anything short of a nuclear explosion to kill them?!
but seriously, I cant take out the rock and risk all my corals attempting to get rid of it that way...any ideas? thankssss...

That can be good or bad depending on the type of coral. Rics and candy canes will grow fast with GSP as food. I would try Joes Juice or the like to kill it back.

LOL sorry to hear this. almost every noob become experienced reefer regrets the fact of ever putting GSP into a tank. if it just started creeping recently, you should be able to peel off the mat

I find that the newly grown edges are very easy to peel off, but once its matured its a total PITA lol. now I'm contemplating using Joe's juice (or another similar product), then scraping the heck of of them, THEN covering them in putty/epoxy haha.

Thats what I was thinking as a possible attempt to keep them at bay. I'll have to give that a try.
Anyways...Im going to try to scrape it off with a razor blade, blast them with Joe's juice, then possibly cover them with something.
keep the suggestions coming guys :)

Just keep peeling back the new growth. I actually like my GSP, but I also know that it needs to be pruned and treated like a macro algae. As stated above, fresh growth is the easiest to peel back.
If you want to kill it all, epoxy or kalkwasser paste over it all. Joe's Juice can make a dent, but it'll grow back.

thanks for the advice. If I were to use kalk paste do I just put it in a baster/syringe and just apply it to the GSP by squirting it directly on them? will it harm the tank water/other corals nearby?

It really needs to be THICK, like it would clog a syringe thick. Make it thick enough that you need to smear it on with your fingers. Leave your filtration/powerheads off for a little bit so that excess doesn't get blown around too much, but if it's thick enough, it shouldn't be too bad. The more that floats around, the more likely you are to have to do a water change. It won't really harm anything, but if big chunks land on other corals, it could potentially harm them. Same thing with Joe's Juice or Aiptasia X, they tell you to turn off filtration for the same reasons. Joe's and X are just watered down forms of kalkwasser.

thank you! I'll pick some up tomorrow and give it a go.

if possible pull the rock out of the tank to smear the kalk paste on the GSP. this wll prevent the kalk paste from washing off too quickly and prevent you from spiking your alkalinity with the paste and possible preceipitating calcium out of your tank. (depending on how much you need to use. then rinse the kalk off after a few minutes (5-10) and return the rock to the tank. I know there are other corals on the rock, just cover them with paper towel wet with tank water and they will be fine. or mist them with a spray bottle of marine water every couple minutes.
once you notice the treated area dying you should pull the rock out again and scrub away the dead flesh with a scrub brush.

It's only easy to peel when it first starts spreading...once it grows down into the crevices it's like concrete to remove. I would try and remove the corals from that rock and sell the rock covered in GSP to somebody or the LFS and replace that rock with another. If you can't remove any of the corals on that rock...frag what you can of the corals and let the rest duke it out like they do in the ocean.
Meowzer....pink??? when you get too much of it...remember me...your dear friend...LOL..I have never seen it in pink, not even for sale.

can I use something other than Kalk...my LFS dosen't carry it. Can I use Calcium and turn that into a paste...or some other type of powder additive it have such as alk or PH?
and unless I really have to I would prefer not to take the rock out because it is at the bottom of the pile...but that may be what I have to do. thanks for all the suggestions.

^^ This,
MY GSP is a visitor favorite, It creeps, but it's not like it happens overnight. do a little maintenance and trade it in to the LFS for credit.

Mine are also everyone's favorite lol, especially the branching variety. Once I get it off the rock I'm going to isolate the colony on the sand away from everything else...then my LFS will be overwhelmed with frags of it.
As of right now, however, I consider it the equivalent of herpes and it must be DESTROYED

Sure, you can have my Flame Angel that likes to snack on it if I don't feed her.

Joe's Juice or Aiptasia X will work, you'll need to use more of it than you would with just a kalk paste though. Or try that marine epoxy and just smother it.
