How do I remove a broken MH bulb from the fixture?

One of the bulbs seems to have spontaneously cracked and I cannot get the remnants out now. I tried to grab the piece that was still intact... it broke in my hand and a couple stitches later I am still working on this.
The bulb is extremely difficult to reach in the canopy and, unfortunately, the canopy is pretty much impossible to remove without at least 2 other guys. It's a real PITA. Any tricks/suggestions?

You could try the potato trick cut a potato jam it on the bulb and remove

if its mogul based try a raw potatoe cut in half. I have heard people recommend this for regular bulbs before so who knows

If its not the mogul based kind, just take a pair of needle nose pliers to it and get it out. Make sure you unplug it first though.

1) unplug it so there is no power.
2) take the light off the tank so no glass gets into the tank.
3) Pliers should work to remove the bulb.

Or you could just put a towel over the tank to catch any glass that falls.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I will try the potato method, as it is very difficult to remove the light from under the canopy, while standing on a step stool.
