That was just wrong and irresponsible.
Don't most people get charged for emergency services in their property taxes??

Aren't most fire departments Volunteer also

I know they are around here, and If I remember correctly I knew quite a few people in NY that volunteered for the FD.
ALTHO it should not matter.....no amount of money owed to anyone should have been the reasoning for that....

As someone who has worked in EMS, these firefighters took on an oath and moral obligation to protect, even if they're volunteers.

If they had just not responded it would have been different but to just sit and watch it burn was wrong. Thing is the voters rejected tax initiatives to raise the funds for a fire department in that area so it was decided they would just make arrangements with the town to contract their fire department services. These people didn't pay, What the county should do is pass a law that if you subscribe for 75 buxs you have fire service. If not you will be billed at 500.00 an hour for fire response if they are called out to your property.

I would really love to hear the reasoning of the people who said let it burn. And right on I can't believe they just watched it burn killing the pets and all. Blows my mind that somebody thought that it was right over 75 bucks but come on lets hear your reason.

That's how our ambulance service works and I believe the funds also go to the fire departments, not sure if it is statewide, but it seems like a common practice in the rural areas around here.

my station gets reimbursed by the county for calls we get.if there is a structure fire we call at least 3-7 other stations for their tanker and manpower .they also get reimbursed by the county.we also do fundraisers .one bbq which is two weeks from yesterday,a pancake breakfast and a mailer .some towns around here charge each homeowner a small amount with their waterbill like $3 a month.there is no fricken way we would just let a structure fire or grass fire go .part of our job is to save as much property as we can.at the end of a house fire in the mop up stage we put a tarp on the lawn and go through the home finding anything we can that wasnt totaled.then place it all on the tarp for the family.we call red cross so they can help with shelter if they need it.we also clean up the whole site from our mess like waterbottles ,garbage ect.i cant believe they would just let this go.what if the fire spread from flames or radiant heat the the next home that paid their $75.
tell ya what those trailer homes burn alot hotter and make more smoke than stick built houses do.i would not get within 10 feet of one without my airpack.maybe they stuff all their meth in the walls?
