How do you frag a polyp colony.

I have a couple of polyp colonies that are doing very well. My son has a nanoreef that is also doing well. I would like to "frag" some of my polyps and place them in his tank, but am not sure how to do it without disrupting things, or worse yet kill the whole colony.

Here's a bump for ya. I would like to know as well. I have a 250+ colony of star polyps and a colony of 80+ yellow polyps. Anyone know? :help:

I set a small rock in or near the colony. Once enough have attached I cut around the rock and pull it away.

There are many ways to do it. I just pulled my rock with 'em out of the water, found a nice sized clump that wasn't well attached... took out my exacto knife and made short work of them. I then rubber banded them to a rock for a couple weeks (2-3 depending on new growth) until they attached.
I dont' put mine in another tank yet (sadly), but I do trade them at the LFS for different corals and store credit.
If you search, you can find probably even more ways to frag em.

My star polyps just frag without me doing anything. I placed the colony on some small rocks. Now, it's expanding automatically and producing small polyps. I guess it's a good sign thwe I've got a good water quality.
