How do you frag?

Ok, so maybe I'm not all that smart........ok just new!
How do you frag things? I hear you all talking about it all the time. My best friend and I both have tanks and we want to start sharing stuff. I recently bought a green star polyp that is just beautiful and she really wants a piece of it. Can anyone help? Also, what about tree sponges?
Thank you up front for your help!

Green star polyps are actually qite easy to frag. If you look closely at them, you will see that there is actually 'branches' that encrust the rock- these branches can be cut with a razorblade and then carefully lifted off the rock. These bracnches can then be glued with super glue (gel works the best) to rocks, shells, etc. you can even get them to grow on your glass, but that's a little trickier. Last time i did this, I glued some to the back of a snail, and had a moving coral-- since then, the snail was killed by a scarlet hermit, and now the start polyps cruise!
I have not tried sponges, or even researched that, so i cannot advise you there... but star polyps in my opinion are a really good place to start- quite easy to do succesfully.

becca - ditto on Javajoe - but for all items I'd check out some other sites. Garf.org has some videos on fragging and step by steps on how to frag as well ....
Good luck!

Thanks! I will give it a go!
Over - if I can get it work, it's yours!
It's a really cool one that I bought in Tulsa that has some growth hanging off of each side. Looks way to easy to whack it off!!:D
It has the brightest fluorescent green centers.
I'll let you know...
Thanks again!

It's not too bad. About 1 1/2 hours. We don't really have a good LFS here so I don't have a choice.
Hey, thanks for the info on garf. They have some really neat info. I tried to order a Farm-in-a-box but they don't make it anymore. Bummer. Oh well. Will have to set up my own 10 gal for stuff.
Will have to anyway incase my clowns decide to spawn!
I have a RARE Green Ricordea Mushroom (RARE according to *****.com) coming tomorrow. I may have to try to frag it too. garf.com talks like it is easy. I will have to give it a go!!

I would let it stabilize for a few months before you go fragging it! Would hate to see you shock it then introduce it then remove it and frag it and have it die!! though shrooms are pretty tough!!
Sometime when you are planning a trip towards KC we will have to work out a frag trade!

Don't worry, it will be awhile before I get up the nerve to try cutting it up! (Kind of sounds mean really!)
Likewise for you if you are ever headed south, let me know!
Thanks again!
