I purchased some live rock at a LFS, I picked out some peices and he went to weight it up, He came back with it's 36 dollars, Great I thought I get another peice, The first employee took off with the rock, So I grabbed someone else and got another peice, This one came out to 41 dollars, as he went into the back to bag it the first one came out with my first rockes they were in wet paper towles in a plastic bag, I told him I'm waiting for another peice, The second guy came out with the rock in a bag filled with water and bagged in another plastic bag. Why was their a difference, did the first guy just not care or did I get extra service from the second, Sorry post so long

As long as the LR stays damp then everything should be fine provided you don't leave the rock in a closed car on a 100*F day while you shop. The rock I have gotten online and at my LFS comes wrapped in wet newspaper.

At the very least the LFS should put damp paper on your rock to help prevent the die off that will occur on the ride home. Almost make sure they do this, especially if you are traveling longer distances.

Wow, you got that kind of service? When I picked up my LR, the guy just fished it out of the tank, place it into a plastic (rubbermaid) container I brought with me. didnt give me any extra water, no damp newspaper...nada! I was too new at the time to request anything. But I only bought 6 pieces on the small side.

You just got extra service from the second guy, but it really wasn't necessary. The wet towels or newspaper would do fine.

I bought something like 30 lbs. of live rock from my lfs, and they put it in wet newpaper, bagged it, and put it in a styrofoam container. That was the first 30 lbs. of live rock that I bought; I figured that must have been the way most places do it.

Live Rock at my LFS is SOOO expensive, that I can only afford a small piece at a time...
So I just put it in my pocket, and carry it home...
