A decent quantity of quality LR will provide pods for your system. As long as the system is stable and predators are limited they will reproduce at a fairly rapid rate. You can purchase them from a few sources...but I prefer to get mine from the rubble/crud at the bottom of large tanks used to cure LR. I know of a LFS that always has a large amount of LR curing and they normally will let me get a few lbs of crud from the bottom for free.

Seriously...if you can locate a source of the crud/rubble from the bottom of curing tanks I'd suggest you give it a try. As a rule you'll find that it is full of life.....pods/worms/bacteria for seeding DSB's...I've even found small corals and mini brittle stars...the stuff is simply teaming with the same micro infauna that a few sites sell for high dollar amounts. Whenever I get the chance I bring home a few lbs to add to my refugiums...believe me I'm not joking...the stuff is good for establishing micro infauna populations and for seeding DSB's. I'm also aware of at least one major on-line retailor that will sell the crud from the tanks they use for the same reasons mentioned above...it is a good means of seeding a DSB and establishing life in a refugium.;)
