Does anyone have any tips for silencing and amiracle over flow box. This is my first sump set-up and I have heard of boxes can be loud. Mine sounds like some is draining a tube constantly. I am ussing the prefilters that came with it. Thanks

I cut two layers of that thick blue filter pad to the size of the prefilter. I then lay these on four of the bio balls that came with the filter, one in each corner around the raised drain hole. They just happen to be the same height as the drain. I don't use the Amiracle ones for the same reason you stated. You have to change or wash these more though as they will clog and slow your siphon. I prefer to put in new each time though, the filter pads are five dollars for several feet which I don't think is that much. There's also silencers you can make but as far as I know you'd lose the prefilter part of the overflow.
Do a search too, someone had a link to some silencer plans a while back. Consists of a tube placed in the drain hole with holes drilled towards the top. Then a larger diameter cap is placed over the holes. That way the water is going down the tube from inside the cap.

ok dont get mad, this is only 4 days late.....i JUST set up my overflow and sump this wekend and by sunday i was already working on how to quiet down the overflow (amiracle if you havent guessed) well i bought it used and it works great, just noisy, so i dont know if it came with one originally, but i just cut a piece of plexiglass to fit over the top, and cut right around the U-tube, letting as little noise out as possible......quieted it down a lot. well thats what i did, i'm sure in combination with something else, that baby might be real quiet.

I just stuck a bio ball over the tube. The filter media works good but, as stated, it causes the water to back up.

The blue filter pad works great.I did it with my. Just keep an eye on the H2o level in the pre filter, you don't want this to overflow. Clean it often food will get caught in it and stink. Just rinse it in the sink. Good Luck.
