How far from the brim is the water usually filled?

How close to the brim do you fill a tank?
I'm measuring for the bulkheads I'm drilling, and pipes I need to buy. Taking into effect the distance from the water top off to the tank brim is going into effect. My calculations.

I keep my water just above the black brace, so I guess thats an inch or so from the top.

Depends on what you are going to do in the tank. You don't want water getiing up under the black rim and causing a leak to the outside. This would be a real concern in a tank that has wave making capabilities. In that case you would want to keep the water from going under the black rim at "high" tide so to speak. For a tank that will have moderate agitation of the surface of the water probably 1/2" below the rim of the tank.

Yeah, 1/2" to an inch. I usually fill it just above the black rim.
