I messed up my last water change and didn't add enough salt
. I'm around 1.019.
How much cna I add per day, and should each addition be done with a water change?
I have a new clown fish that can't seem to get away from the surface. I'm hoping the salinity is the problem. Thanks

Is the clown is a recent addition?- It may just not have found it's territory yet, or it it has & is liking a corner of the tank. If the clown is eating and breathing normally IMO things should be just fine. As for the salinity raising, go to the disease forums and under the locked sections for treatment read about hypo. Directions for safely raising salinity over a number of days should be detailed in that segment. Good luck with everything......just a though since I do not know the size of your tank but one way to slowly raise sg is to do top offs with saltwater versus fresh.

Thank you Fishmamma. Ialways forget to mention size. It's a 46 gallon. The clown has been in the tank for less than 48 hours, so your take on the situation sounds accurate. I'll go check the forums as recommended.

How fast did the salinity drop with your water change?? That could be stressing the fish if it occured rapidly especially being it is new to the tank. Not to scare you but if a fish is going to die of osmotic shock I THINK it will happen very suddenly 24-48 hours after the exposure has occured. Hopefully your little clown will be just fine, luckily they are hearty fish. How often do you test the levels while you are mixing? They will often go down as the water and salt are left to mix and "age" over 24 hours or so. Good luck with everything!! It is a lesson learned in this hobby the hard way as so many are. :scared: (That has been my face many times!)

You lucky duck!! I have a 16 gallon bow and some day want to put a 72 in. Hubby wants to go with the 46 but we also have a 29 gallon, so it is not enough of a change for me. I am just a sucker for bow fronts, post some pics of your set-up one day if you can!!
