I currently have a 55 and plan on upgrading in apx. 2 years when I move to a 180. I was interested in a blue hippo tang which is about 2" as of now. Does anyone know about how fast they grow in a given year???

I think you'll be fine. I am sure the tang police would probably say otherwise, but if you are certain about the two years, I think you'll be fine.

they dont grow that fast. I've had mine for about 8 months and perhaps its grown a half inch (maybe more. hard to tell since I see him everyday. it used to "look" like a juvi but nobody calls it a "baby" tang anymore. I dont "think" its grown much more than half an inch though). I have mine in a 30gallon (bought it at what was suppose to be tiny .5-.75" but ended up being about 1.5"). I would say in a too small tank for the 1rst two or three months it takes more than normal attention and time to keep them healthy and alive. It took mine that long to get comfortable to the point where it no longer seems susceptable to ich and comes forth when I approach the tank instead of ducking under rocks. Once over the hump of this initial period its been very easy to care for. two feedings and an 1x3" algae strip a day. Course its the only fish in the tank and the only other livestock is a fire shrimp (well corals and some hermits too). I'm kinda hoping the transition to my 100g isn't going to end up causing it to go thru that whole process again. At least he'll have the tank to itself for a while.
