how fast do you add your make up water?

would anyone have any information about how fast or slow one should add make up water to a system?
i add to my 170 gallon through the protein skimmer (cpr bakpak2) and directly to the tank for my 40 gaallon.

I add make-up water to the sump usually in the evening when I get home from work.

I think what you are doing is just fine. I add my water to the sump. Just go slow enough so you don't over spill the tank!!

I have a little red line that I drew on my sump, that is where I fill to.

I check mine every night when I get home form work, and add right to the sump what is needed. Good Luck

i dont use a sump i have a canister filter (eheim 2229) this is a wet /dry canister filter and it is not possible to pour into unless stopped and dismanteled.
does everyone out there use the sump - wet dry filtration method? i am using an eheim 2229 wet dry canister filter. any sugestions thanks again for the posts.oh and ugf which was in place allready!.
