Point out ANYWHERE I said I didnt have it. First line of my first post said I broke down and BOUGHT a tang..READ next time

The Laugh at not owning it yet was laughing at that phrase. Like I shouldnt own it like it could cause me harm. I thought it was funny and stupid at the same time.

I did on the post above and now you can see it again . Maybe you should read .

KarenM, I understand your opinion but I think you are reading this board wrong, you don't have to be rich to do saltwater but you should feel responsible for your fish, this is a hobby for living animals and if you are unwilling or unable to take proper care of any animal, you shouldn't own them. Pretty simple, I think, but people tend to get annoyed when someone sets up a tank with no regard for the life inside. Tangs in general often have ich and anyone getting one should be prepared to qt or risk losing your whole tank to it, this one sounded like just an unhealthy one from the start. I don't qt either but I have small tanks with usually one fish in each, a goby or blenny and don't add new stock really ever. I'm more into coral. If I ever afford to set up a larger tank with many fish a qt will become very neccessary. That's probably a long way down the road though. Oh and don't get discouraged if you aren't rich, I started out pretty small and poor too, just buy the important stuff, equipment, test kits, lighting, etc before you buy livestock.

Dawman - thanks, but no sympathy needed. My situation is actually quite good compared to so many others. My point in including that in my post is to use myself as an example that probably all of us would love to buy the best equip or have spare tanks set up for QT and all, but for whatever our own reasons may be, we just don't. But we'd still like to be accepted into the club.)

Petjunkie - I guess I'm just insecure because I'm new here and don't know all the regulars and their personalities yet.

The point of the statement is that you should know a little something about the fish before you buy it. if you think that is stupid than you are in the wrong hobby. if you buy fish and then learn about them you are going to waste a lot of money.
it takes 5 minutes to figure out how hardy a fish is, do it before you buy it.....thats all Im saying....

I know plenty about the fish..I know most tangs are ich magnets and such. I just never delt with a fish with pinched stomach so that was the main question. How hardy is it to recovering from this..so it was found out its not..its dead after 1.5days. no QT woulda helped here

You say that no QT would have helped here, maybe not on THAT fish, but it could have helped your other fish. Now you have a problem because you have no idea what killed your tang. Was it disease? Was it stressed and not eating? Was it malnourished? You dont know and now your other fish are at risk. BTW I am not a die hard fish guru, actually I just got into the hobby about 2 weeks ago when I bought my tank, but I am trying to do things right because why chance losing $500 dollars in fish (well roughly overall for my 55 in the future) when you could set up a 20g QT for $100? Just do things the right way and your DT will thank you in the long run! Good luck in the future with your other fish, I hope that tang didnt have anything that he/she passed on to the other fish in the tank...

Unfortunately you lost your fish. Why do you say that you will never qt a fish? We do not make stuff up just to make this hobby hard. We share our experiences so that, hopefully, others can have more knowledge and learn from our mistakes. To not qt a fish is putting all of your other fish at risk. You can have a tank with minor ich for years, treat it with various "reef safe" medications and introduce a new fish that will succumb and die. I don't want you to just take my word as truth. Do a search in Disease and Treatment on ich and see what you come up with. As for the pinched stomach, he could have recovered just fine, or maybe not. You will never know. A fish in quarantine can eat his own food without having to fight for it. This is very important to a scared or shy fish. He could have had a chance to develop a personality and become greedy toward food as most tangs are.

Karen, please do not feel shy on these boards. There are no dumb questins here. Feel free to ask anything you would like
We do just ask that you start a thread of your own if you have a question. We don't want your question to get lost or to appear to "hijack" anyone else's thread. Trust me, you will get more responses if it is just your question.
