How high and where?

Okay the refugium is up and nitrates are going down. So my next project is MH Lights. I have a 40 gal acrylic. I was thinking of going to 250w MH with 110pc for atinics.
A. Would 250w be good. I was going to 250w because I wanted to upgrade my tank in a year to 100g then I could add 400w MH to this.
B. I was going to DIY the hood. How high should it be above the top of my acrylic tank. I dont want it to rupture due to heat. I would leave the back open and have two fans blowing in.
C. Where is the best place (okay ..best price w/ quality) to order the 250w MH retrofit and lamps.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
D. Would it be easier and just as good a light system : 440 VHO. I would have less of a heat issue and more total watts 440 VHO vs 250MH + 110PC. I notice quite a few people on the board have VHO

What do you think about this...I was looking at another sight (say Hello) and found a VHO retrofit. On my tank it would give me 380 watts. That would give me decent light and not as much worry about acrylic and heat. Would this allow me to keep most corals? Would a 6-7 in high canopy be enough height? Could I use VHO without a cover at that height. I would like to blow a fan across the water for heat control.
