if a fish wants to jump, it will be able to clear the rim. there is no reason not to fill the tank all the way up. what's the point in having a large volume tank and not use all of the volume? for one, it will put a strain on all your HOB equipment. for two, it will look wierd. just get some eggcrate and cut it to fit the top. you will still get good gas exchange and it will help keep any jumpers in the tank. also, you may want to reconsider the yellow and purple tangs. yellow tangs tend to not get along w/ fish of similar body shape.

Even if you only filled your tank half way, a fish can jump out. The streamlined ones are the worst...the ones shaped likea firefish or a goby..long and skinny.
LOL, how high can most fish jump? Out of the tank.

Use eggcrate or screen. fishes can go through egcrate but lowers your chances.
Screen requires more work but will prevent jumpers

search spankos post he has an excellent guide to creating a stylish and secure screen cover that wont reduce lighting.
I used it.

Not the best picture, ill look for my other ones. But you can see its not obstructive.

i agree that the two tangs are a risk but i think that iff put in at the same time chances are they should be fine in a tank this size.I know someone that kept a yellow and purple tang together with no problems in a 120G tank.
before i buy the fish i will tell the fish store that i will bring the purple tang back if their are any problems.
