How Long Bettween Fish

I just got my first fish... so now how long should I wait before I add my 2nd?

a few weeks minimum, if its a big fish id wait a month and a half

I got a yellow striped maroon.Have had it for one week now.I have went through about 3 of these and they all seemed to die off on me...But this one is eating like a little hug and doin real well.My salt level with the other 3 was 1.028...I brought it down to 1.023 and its doing fine.
